Because i am a Lawyer

Yes, i am a lawyer. Why i became one is of no actual significance, nor was it because of any epiphany or intense desire to be one. I did not want to be an engineer and could not be a doctor because I did not like Biology and well, my friends were applying for this law course and I filled up the form and here I am, a lawyer. So no actual reason for me to be a lawyer. But I am a lawyer. That is who I am now. And people around me keep on reminding me, and I think themselves also, that I am a lawyer. Wakil Saahab, Lawyer ji. I have been addressed by these names and many other forms of these names by my near and far family members. And at work I am surrounded by lawyers. So, yes, there is no doubt that I am a lawyer.

But I never knew that being a lawyer will have such serious consequences in my life. I dont want to complain, so I will try and refrain from doing that. But I cant help but wonder what went wrong with the system that lawyers became the scum of the earth and are considered the meanest, wiliest, conceited, selfish people. I am sure there are many other adjectives that are used to describe a lawyer and now i am classified as one. so i am all of these adjectives and much more. All because i am a lawyer.

Of the many sayings that i believe in, one is that 'everything happens for a reason'. Maybe the reason i became a lawyer was so that my lawyer tag can be like a natural sieve around me, like a protective layer, to keep all the bigots and/ or hypocrites and/ or judgmental people out of my carefree, loud, non-stop dancing and laughing life. All because i am a Lawyer.
